Blown and Kiln Formed Glass, Time, Temperature
H & W: 20", D: 2"
2016

One part drawing and one part map, these panels are in service of capturing the chance arrangement of the residue of my cup making process below the bench after a 6-hour work period.  After the work period is done, the panel is loaded immediately into a kiln and fired low to a tack fuse, permanently fixing each residual item in place without losing their individual shapes, edges, or surface textures.

By keeping these floor records of my working I am able to give the overlooked debris of the cup making process new life as an object in itself. The project is revisited every so often as an opportunity to witness what patterns emerge within such a nonsensical diagramming method .

Cartograph
An observance of the residue building up underneath my bench during a 6 hour work period. Video playback is compressed into 1 hour. The remnants collected on the black glass paneling below my bench was then lightly fired at a tack fuse to keep record of my working as seen in its remains.
