Dismissals

Blown Glass; Compromising Circumstances
Dimensions Vary
2020 - present

An ongoing body of work archiving various instances of dismissal as it relates to preconceived notions of excellence associated to the glass object and/or glassmaking protocols associated to it’s making.

“I’m paying attention to the role of predicament in studio practice as it relates to surrender. There are glass rules that I’m adamant to follow, but only because it makes the effort to rescind them so much more suggestive.”

During the month of February of 2020, I wanted to use Instagram as a sketchbook to pursue and post 28 gestures of dismissal to a series of cups of specific design. 28 cups to undergo 28 “gestures” in honor of the month’s uniquely short length of 28 days. Down below are images to represent most of what was posted.

The artwork featured above are current efforts in bringing these Instagram gestures of dismissal to life as gallery-grade sculptural studies featuring customized matting, supporting media, and customized vitrines. The images below are the origins of this project idea.
