Slump Trajectory: Right-side Up
Blown Glass, Time, Temperature H: 10", W & D: 4" 2016 Photo Credit (above): Elizabeth Lamark I'm curious of what kind of activity is happening if a cup is placed within a kiln and sent up to a temperature beyond its annealing point when left vulnerable to the hot atmosphere. What happens when a kiln’s lid is shut and the program starts running?…how can I get a sense for what may be happening when unable to see? Is there a logic to where they fall? If so, what are all the variables? This first test, very humble in scope, was to place a goblet of a certain design in the center of a 20” by 20” kiln shelf right side up and send it up to 1250 F, hold there for 10 minutes and anneal. |
