Blown and Kiln Formed Glass, Time, Temperature H & W: 20", D: 2" 2016 Photo Credit (top right panel): Elizabeth Lamark To capture the chance arrangement of the remnants of the cup making process below my bench after a 6-hour work period is to acknowledge a lesser regarded dignity within the debris that withholds as much grandeur as the made cup does; the debris below becoming just as much a composed product of the cup making process as the cup itself. It also introduces an interesting idea of value…of redirecting my attention to the activity down below instead of allowing me to get lost in the spectacle of what’s happening above. I wanted to commemorate this happening…to extend upon the image taking of these floor arrangements with my camera into an area of image making with them in the kiln…to give substance to the residue by creating a scenario that would allow me to keep it as it is and give the residue a new life as an object unto itself. |
